Why is Black history month on Feb.?

Venetta Coulbourne: 'Americans have recognized black history annually since 1926, eventually as "Black History Month." We owe the celebration of Black History Month to Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a child of former slaves who eventually earned a Ph.D. from Harvard. Woodson chose the second week of February because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly influenced the black American population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.'
