Debora Soliani: It is certainly a big decision - not to be made lightly. First you need to consider what subject you would like to teach - you can't just get a degree in "Secondary Eduction" - you have to specialize. Choose something you enjoy or that interests you - you don't have to know it right now, that is what college is for. I chose to major in Mathematics because when I was in Junior College, I had such a great time in my math classes. I am now in my 9th year teaching. Second, you need to spend some time in a classroom. Many teachers qui! t after only a few years because it is not at all what most people expect it to be. If you know what to expect, then you won't be surprised when you get your own classroom. We have a college student at our school who is working on becoming a teacher and she comes into one of our lower end classes twice a week as a student assistant. See if that is available in your area. You will probably need to get finger-printed and have a background check run. Third, I would definitely check out some on-line teacher blogs. Emile Midgley: Well, why not Amanda; when u said the thought of teaching came into your mind NATURALLY, it means that teaching is something you like by your choice not by any other external fact, It indicates that you have very good explanatory skills(that's the reason you are more inclined towards teaching,aren't you! ?) and you like to share your knowledge.Very few people in thi! s world gets to choose what they like as their career ,you have time and opportunity right now in your hands.Just do it! As far as the question that whether it will turn out good career choice or not?? stands.
