Question about T Ball for my 5 Year Old?

Lillie Yarde: My son started sports when he was 3. He did T-ball when he was 5. Sports organizations keep the younger teams (under 9) non-competive. It's strictly for learning how to play on a team, learning the basic rules of the game, having fun, getting some exercise and fresh air. My boy was never stressed out (well unless he needed a nap instead of going to practice; so we let him skip out of several practices, and it was no big deal.)

Marcel Then: Thanks, Angela....as to the napping, my son hasn't napped since he was 1 year old, lol.

Jesusita Dykhoff: Couch??? I meant, Coach, LOL

Lonnie Jehle: I could maintain in in tee ball and feature him conclude the season. You do not desire for him to consider that it is ok to simply "give up" anything after making an attempt it a couple of instances. Once you begin anything, you have to conclude it. I could recommend taking him to look a official ball sport or a baseball/softball sport for older youngsters. E! xplain to him what is occurring for the duration of the sport, in order that he has a greater know-how of what he is believe to be doing out at the discipline. Buy a tee ball set (adding the bases). Practice along with your son at house and at the weekends. Talk him via what he's believe to be doing. When he's batting, stand at the back of him and exhibit him what function his ft will have to be in; how you can preserve the bat; and how you can comply with via with the swing to make touch with the ball. Teach him to run to first base. Explain that his train will inform him whilst to run to moment base. If your son has a greater know-how of the sport, he'll consider extra positive and can experience gambling. I consider it is well to inspire your baby, however an excessive amount of compliment may also be worse than none. If it isn't a well task, do not insult his intelligience by means of announcing that this can be a well task. Instead, inform him you are happy with him fo! r making an attempt his excellent. It appears like your son co! uld also be somewhat insecure. Do matters to check out to construct up his self worth and inspire a few friendships. Maybe you would invite the crew (and the moms and dads) for your house for a BBQ in order that the children can play in combination and you'll be able to get accustomed to the moms and dads....Show more

Willie Tun: In our community, T-ball is really about getting the kids together to play and teaching them the basics of baseball. No scores are kept and when they've played for 1 hour, the game is over. Everyone gets a chance to bat and play the positions. If it's more "serious" than that, for five year olds, I think I would reconsider. At this stage, it real;ly needs to be for fun and not about rules and playing it right. Unfortuantely, a lot of parents take it too far and set their kids up in ways they shouldn't at five years old....Show more

Hilde Heskett: Thank you, bookmom. This is actually going to be the second practice since we didn't know a! bout the first practice til it was too late. My son is ready, willing, and hopefully will be able to follow along. He's a ball of energy at home, but is wonderful around others. This will definitely be a learning experience for the both of us....Show more

Robt Heemstra: I do agree parents take things too far when it comes to competitions, which is why I asked, thank you, Tracey Seth. The couch sounded nice enough over the phone, so I'm hoping that his niceness will be sensed among other parents, and hopefully the children. My son is competitive, but has a heart, so to speak, so he can get easily overwhelmed if he feels someone is "trying to beat him in the game"....Show more

Libby Berkovitch: Every coach and league is different, but I can tell you what I like to see at the first few tball practices:The coach talks to the group as a whole and reads their names off a list and has them raise their hands so the kids learn each others names. If the kids are praticing on ! a tball field, then at some point the coach will show them where the ba! ses are and what order to run the bases. The coach has a few helpers and they break the kids into small groups. The kids start learning how to catch a ground ball using two hands, how to hold the bat and hit off the tee and how to throw and how to run the bases. FYI The kids might be hitting off a tee only a few yards from a fence so it is easier to collect the balls.I would hope that safety rules would be explained and repeated frequently. Here are some to start with:No bats in the dug outOnly the on-deck person in the battle circleNEVER turn your back on home plate when a batter is up---whether you are on the field or on-deckThe runner has the right to advance--no blocking the base path.No banging bats on the ground or playing with the batsNo one gets to play catcher unless they are wearing catcher's gear Sometime before the first game the coach will decide positions---these will probably change ALOT but one thing should be predictable: the kid on first has to be alert an! d know how to catch. Why? Because one of the first fielding rules the kids will learn is "when you get the ball throw it to first!"I hope your son has tons of fun....Show more
