how do I re-establish credit after bankruptcy?

Vida Miss: Apply for those "secured" credit cards, the ones where you have to put money in an account and they give you that credit limit,,,they re-evaluate you after certain periods of time and sometimes raise your limit without having to put more money down. ... banks and other credit card companies are looking for on time payments for 2 years after bankruptcy so if they do raise your limit..make sure you pay everything on time from now on !! Good Luck

Shaunta Paap: you can check my profile for a link that should be of actual usegreat for rebuilding credit or establishing creditand great resource that compiles banks and lenders to help people needing second chances

Bryant Chaudhry: stay away from credit cards. Buy a lower value car through whichever avenue that is available to you, (in order to keep your payments low and manageable) but try and go through your bank. Use the car payment to re-establish a payment schedule AND DO NOT BE LATE.

Danyell Ro! wback: Just to clarify, you are trying to reestablish your credit. A Credit card is needed for that. Orchard bank is good, First Premier is bad. Go for a card with higher interest but no fees. You don't need to carry a balance to establish credit so pay those off every month (interest doesn't matter than). You only need one card.If you can afford the payments, purchase a new car. Banks lend for new cars easier than used. In fact, most lenders won't talk to you unless the vehicle has warranty. Hundai's are inexpensive but depreciate rapidly so be warned. These will, however, raise your credit scores rapidly. And, yes, monitor your reports, plenty of inaccurate info will follow.Make sure all accounts are reporting "included in bankruptcy" This is an important factor to lenders. In fact, spend some time to clean up reports before applying for credit. It will only take thirty days after you submit your dispute letters. Ck your reports again in three months. Some collection agenc! ies are slow to get the word. This can go on for two years (as! I can verify).Purchase the book "Guaranteed Credit" by Arnold S. Goldstein. This has all the tools you'll need to get your credit scores back as quickly as possable. My scores are mid 600 just two years out and thats only because I still have disputed information. Just because you dispute it and it gets removed doesn't mean it won't get reported again. Huh, Credit bureau's are not lazy. They don't have people monitoring your information to make sure it's accurate. That is your responsability....Show more

Shon Almquist: My mom filled bankruptcy and when she got out of it credit cards came pouring in. She applied for a lot of them and now shes having money problems again. If you are going to get credit cards again BECAREFUL!! Old and bad habits do come back. I know Capital One and Providian lets anyone have a credit card, but again just becareful when you go back to using credit.

Madge Voice: Pretty soon you will start getting offers from credit card companies (H! ouseholdbank, Orchard, First Premiere) and although they start you at a tiny $250 limit, it is a way to start re-establishing credit. Just charge something small and make payments. I know it looks like there is no hope, but there is. Also, order a copy of your credit report and see what is on there. Try and challenge anything. Sometimes the credit agencies are so lazy they won't verify anything. Is your BK dismissed? Sometimes if it is dismissed, you can have it removed. I just got mine removed from Experian. Good luck....Show more
