Disadvantages of victim surveys are that respondents do not always recall precise details of their experiences, the results are subject to sample error, and the surveys are a poor means of collecting data on crimes such as rape, domestic violence, fraud and corruption, because members of the public are often reluctant to discuss such matters with survey fieldworkers.
