What should we women do when guys make bad jokes around our family members?

Agustina Stimmel: Well, just not being funny is one thing, but if the jokes are in bad taste, that's another. If they are crude/off-color jokes, then I think the proper response would be to politely say, "If you guys are going to tell THOSE KINDS of jokes, then I'd appreciate it if you'd go outside (or another room)." If the jokes are just not funny... but not crude, then just roll your eyes and shake your head.

Gus Leiby: It depends on the type of joke. If they're just jokes that aren't very funny, I'd just let it be. He's an adult, his actions! are his. Anyway, just because I don't think his joke is funny doesn't mean someone else might not think it is. If the joke is poorly timed (for example, he tells a hunting joke to Aunt Jane, having no idea Uncle Ed had an unfortunate hunting accident), then I'd pull him aside, explain the faux pas, and work with him to see how best to do damage control.If he's the type that consistently tells inappropriate or off-color jokes that make others uncomfortable, then I'd have a heart-to-heart with him about his sense of humor around my family. Roselee Mczeal: not in front of anyone, but try the personal approach and say that it really hurts YOUR feelings and the feeling of that person when they make comments like they just did.everyone is accountable for what comes out of their mouth bu! t FAR too often guys will say "aww they know I was only joking! " when in fact what they said was very hurtful.
