Which costs more - car or health insurance and which gives more bang for the buck?

Nannie Kasee: My car insurance costs about 5 times more than my health insurance, to answer your question. But I'm not on the government dole, so of course my opinion doesn't count.

Douglass Sarley: Health insurance is the bigger rip off.If we compare health insurance to car insurance this is what would happen. You would not be able to get insurance for you car if it once had a problem picked up when it was serviced. And in addition, if you made a claim, they could drop you if the death panels they use thought they could get away with it.Why does no other developed nation have the US model of healthcare? Because in the US model, insurance companies use death panels to deny care to those they are meant to cover. And then they raise costs [1]. Not only does the USA spend more on healthcare than any other nation [2], it finds itself bottom of the table when it comes to preventable deaths due to treatable conditions when it comes to developed nations [3]. The sad t! hing is that rather than focus on these things, the right spreads lies and half truths about the reforms and how healthcare works abroad [4]. But, if you think that my points are wrong, e-mail me with proof....Show more

Bernadette Roel: My health insurance costs more than the car insurance. That is the case because I am older than my car. I just don't run as fast as before. Maintenance cost rises with age. Additional makeup in the purse.

Ronnie Barcus: Having car insurance is required in most places....health insurance isn't..So there's really not much of a choice.

Lynn Melbourne: You forgot many intangible items in the car insurance rant. It's past the value of the car. There are many other liabilities to fund like car rental, personal damages, etc... Depending on what they risk in their pool. Those are values outside of the actual value of the car.But car insurance is required because a car can damage another car. Yet ones health can not damage anot! her's health since there are vaccinations for protection. Unfo! rtunately you can't put a shield on your car to protect it like you can with health. Plus health insurance varies as well as the car insurance. If you have liability only car insurance it's cheap as hell. If you have Medicaid as health insurance it's "free" *At the cost of tax payers. But being realistic both services are too different to compare. In Terms of Insurance health Insurance is expensive due to the things it subsidizes like doctor visits. Doctor visits are expensive due to lack of doctors. If there was a lack of auto mechanics, then it would be the equivalent cost of a Doctor to diagnose your car.I hope this works for you....Show more

Marcel Then: At 20 years old and healthy, it may be cheaper to get health insurance than car insurance but by the time you are 50 years old, the cost of health insurance will start going through the roof. Also don't ever get sick since it is likely that you won't be able to get health insurance at any price but if you can, expec! t to have health care costs of $50,000 or more per year before you will break even considering premiums, deductibles, and co-pay which will all be extremely high.As an example in my case, when I was 55 I developed chronic fatigue and decided to quit my job. Although I had seen doctors during that time to try to determine the cause of the fatigue, I never had health care costs that exceeded $2,000 in any year (never more than $200 in the previous 30 years). When my cobra insurance ran out and I applied for health insurance, I was categorized as a risk so they wanted to charge me $600 per month (reasonable) for a $10,000 deductible, 30% co-pay, and no prescription drug benefit. I would have to exceed $40,000 per year to break even and I wasn't even sick. I wonder what they would charge someone with a heart condition. That was 10 years ago so today the premium would be double that amount and would increase every year until you are 65. Fortunately for me, I was eligible for VA ! insurance so I didn't have to take the insurance....Show more

Boy! ce Gilhooly: I might suggest that you visit this web site where onel can get rates from different companies: http://INSUREQUOTE.US/index.html?src=5YAGFFICIeIa1RE :Which costs more - car or health insurance and which gives more bang for the buck? The government is so absorbed in health insurance, but I think the bigger rip off is car insurance. Can anyone shed some light? Doesn't a 20K car cost about 200/month in insurance, or a 60K car cost about 500/month in insurance, where as for a fraction of that someone can pay for health care and it will cover up to $2 million in services. Am I missing something? Which is the bigger rip off?Update: Ok this might be a stupid question because I think car insurance covers casualty too which is higher than the cost of the car.Follow 8 answers...Show more

Brittney Inabnit: Both are rip offs. I just don't believe that humans should walk around with price tags dangling around their heads. Unless you believe a human life is worth the ! same as a piece of metal, then there is really no debate.

Tereasa Sorensen: Ok this might be a stupid question because I think car insurance covers casualty too which is higher than the cost of the car.
