In fact, those extra picture cards took as their theme a traditional Christian triumph procession, hence they were called trionfi, meaning triumphs, and from which we get our word trump. It was the invention of tarot that marked the invention of trumps in card games for for their first 350 years they were used for nothing but card games!Anyway, most countries now use French suited tarot cards that you would probably not recognize as being tarot at all.In general, I don't think that there are all that many really good card games for two but there are a couple in the tarot family that are very enjoyable while not being over-complicated.The best of the two is Straw Man Tarock, played with a French suited pack reduced to just 54 cards.
