You collect sets of cards that are different colors to place trains on the board. The longer the route, the more points you earn. The goal is to try and complete a series of long routes that you draw at the start of the turn. It's a really fun game and it's a great starter game for getting into more complex games.Elder Sign is a bit rough, I'm just going to say that first off. It's a very difficult game, but can be very fun. Players are working together to fight monsters from the C! thuhlu mythos. This is a dice game and is very easy to call a Yahtzee rip off, but once you start playing there is a fair amount of complexity to it. For instance you can get new weapons that let you roll dice with better icons on them and you are given more challenges than "1-4" or "3 of a kind". This is probably the most fiddly game on my short list, there are lots of little bits to keep track of over the course of the game. But, despite the fiddly nature of the game it's very fun. I played a game of it over the weekend and we had a monster that if it wakes up it devours the world and everyone instantly dies. We needed to get 14 Elder Signs which is really hard, and it just had to get 12 Doom Tokens to win, and Doom Tokens sometimes came out two or three per turn. We finished the game by lucking into a location that gave us 3 Elder Signs all at once, putting us within striking distance and we were able to get our last Elder Sign the turn before he would have gotten his 12! th Doom Token. It was great, we felt like we had fought hard a! nd won.So, check out TableTop with Wil Wheaton, it's great and he promotes great games.
